A would-be praedial larcenist got the shock of his life when the owner of a chicken farm shot out the tyres of the getaway vehicle recently.
Last week, the accused man who worked at a chicken farm for over eight years before deciding to steal the birds appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrates' court for praedial larceny.

The court was told that Nigel Palmer sold 105 live chickens valued at $84,000 and decided to send them to the country.

His co-accused, Errol Dennis, a bus driver, was asked to pick up the chickens on the day in question.

Dennis, who plies the Spanish Town to Bayside route, went to the location with passengers in the vehicle. However upon realising what was taking place, the owner fired several shots which blew out the tyre of the bus. Fearing for his life, Dennis ran into bushes were he hid until the police arrived.

Dennis was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 with one to two sureties and one of the conditions of his bail is that he reports to the Spanish Town police on Saturdays between the hours of 6 a.m and 6 p.m. The vehicle was also released on bond in  the sum of $200,000.

However, Palmer who pleaded guilty, was fined $150,000 or 3 months imprisonment at hard labour.
